About Us…

Optimize has been developed by Powertec, a company formed in 1988 and still run by its founders.

Powertec specialise in people-related systems and consultancy. Its ‘Storm’ HR system has been implemented by a range of medium to large organisations including 30 NHS Trusts and a Dublin hospital.

Development of Optimize

Optimize was developed in partnership with a major acute Trust. Their aim was to help the introduction of flexible working and family-friendly policies, as well as achieving integration with the HR and payroll systems and, crucially, reducing bank and agency expenditure. Here are the key features of what proved to be a very successful project:

  • Strong support and close involvement by a project team representing all sectors and including senior management.
  • Communication with Trust staff at every stage of design and development of the software.
  • Secondment of a Powertec consultant on a virtually full-time basis for two years during the pilot and early implementation phase.
  • Appointment of a senior nurse from within the Trust as Project Manager.


Initially Optimize was developed to meet the needs of all Nursing staff. Due to Optimize being successful for Nurses, we have since developed an Optimize system for Doctors.
